Son moltes i variades les situacions en que es poden produïr precipitacions a Vila-real. Però no tants les que desemboquen en situacions de fortes plujes. A continuació comentem les diferents situacions que ens poden donar precipitacions.
1- Front Atlàntic: 
Els fronts atlàntics son resultat de una borrasca situada al W o NW de la península ibèrica. Afecten principalment a tota la façana atlàntica, es a dir, la meitat oest de la península. Portugal i Galicia son les més beneficides, així com determinades zones de la meitat occidental i del sistema central ben orientades. En lo que ens afecta a nosaltres, aquests fronts, després de atravessar tota la penínusla ibèrica de W a E ens arriben molt desgastats i amb poca humitat. Per tant, tot i que solen deixar alguna pluja, no son quasi mai quantitats importants i difícilment superen els 10 mm a Vila-real. A la dreta la imatge de un front atlàntic dispost a creuar la península ibèrica.
2- DANA o gota freda: Son les situacions que més precipitació deixen a la nostra terra i que poden causar problemes en forma d’inundacions. Una DANA (Depressió Aïllada a Nivells Alts) es situa a prop del Mediterrani. Aquesta massa d’aire fred en altura (la DANA) contrasta amb el Mediterrani calent i provoca gran inestabilitat. A Vila-real, les situacions de gota freda importants ocurreixen quan els vents marítims ens arriben del SE (xaloc). Si venen de NE (gregal) ens deixen quasi secs, i si venen de E (llevant) també produeixen precipitació però de menor intensitat que amb el xaloc. Normalment, per a que els vents siguen de xaloc, la DANA s’ha de situar prop del estret de Gibraltar. La experiència ens ha demostrat que a part d’aquestes condicions (DANA, vents de xaloc), si es tracta de una advecció càlida es multiplica el potencial de la situació.
3- Tempestes: Típiques de la primavera i estiu. El Sol calenta la terra, aquesta transfereix el calor a l’aire que l’envolta. L’aire ja calent ascendeix i en aquest ascens condensa formant els famosos cumulonimbus, núvols de tempesta. És comú que es formen a l’interior de la província o fins i tot en Teruel, degut a que al no haber influència marítima l’aire es calenta més. Una vegada formades, les tempestes es mouen seguint el patró habitual, de W a E, podent arribar a Vila-real. Son precipitacions molt intenses i de curta duració. A l’esquerra una imatge on es veu la formació de tempestes a l’interior de Castelló.
És d’aquesta manera com es produeixen situacions de pluja a Vila-real. El comportament de les precipitacions a Vila-real segueix un patró estacional sent primavera i tardor les èpoques més plujoses. No obstant, cal dir que qualsevol situació que supose vents de recorregut marítim, preferentment si son de SE, poden comportar precipitacions més o menys importants depenent de la idoneïtat de la resta de circumstàncies atmosfèriques.
