Bé, en aquesta entrada vaig a parlar de meteorologia en comptes de, com faig habitualment, de temes climàtics.
Els últims dies hem rebut una quantitat d’aigua que no és comú a les nostres terres, que ha provocat certs problemes en la ciutat i alguns danys materials. El fenòmen culpable d’açò, la gota freda, com tradicionalment s’ha dit. Però vaig a tractar d’explicar de forma senzilla de que es tracta una situació de gota freda ja que, de vegades, es fa un mal us del d’aquest concepte.
Una situació de gota freda sempre comporta fortes precipitacions, que poden ocasionar danys. Però allò més important per a poder parlar de gota freda no és ja que ploga molt, sino que hem d’atendre al origen d’aquestes pluges.
El fenòmen comença quan es produeix una ondulació del jet stream (o corrent en xorro, l’enllaç explica què és) que acaba estrangulant-se. El resultat d’aquesta estrangulació és la formació d’una massa d’aire independent, a gran altura (més de 5000 m.), anomenada DANA (Depressió Aïllada a Nivells Alts). Aquesta massa d’aire es troba a menor temperatura que l’aire que l’envolta, i el seu moviment es independent al patró comú de l’atmosfera, fins i tot pot moure’s de E a W, contrari al que és habitual. En ocasions, una DANA pot baixar de latitud i arrimar-se a les nostres terres.
Quan una DANA arriba al Mediterrani al final de l’estiu o inici de la tardor, es troba amb unes condicions en superfície de temperatura i humitat suficients per a que es inicie la inestabilitat. El mar Mediterrani, per aquestes dates, es caracteritza per trobar-se a elevada temperatura després d’un llarg estiu i a més, és un gran aport d’humitat. El Mediterrani actua com a font d’energia. El contrast que es produeix entre la DANA y la superficie desencadena una serie de mecanismes que acaben generant una elevada inestabilitat, traduïda en violents ascens de aire i la conseqüent formació de tempestes, que creixen amb facilitat i s’encandenen unes amb altres alliberant quantitats importants de aigua. El resultat ja el coneixem.
Per tant, per poder parlar de gota freda necesitem una situació on una DANA es cola al Mediterrani, i pel contrast de temperatura i la humitat mediterrània, acabi generant precipitacions molt abundants.
Tot açò ve perquè moltes vegades es malinterpreta el concepte de gota freda i s’utilitza de forma errònia. No totes les precipitacions abundants son degudes a una DANA, ni tampoc tota DANA provoca precipitacions abundants. Per exemple, una llevantada pot provocar precipitacions importants sense que parlem de DANA alguna. És a dir, no tota precipitació abundant o danyina es tracta de una gota freda, s’han de complir les condicions senyalades.
I passant a l’episodi que recentment hem pogut contemplar al nostre poble, us deixe les estadístiques d’aquesta gota freda a Vila-real, mesurades per l’estació de VilMeteo.
Finalment, s’han recollit desde les últimes hores de diumenge fins a el vespre del dimarts, 240 mm. Açò supose que en menys de 2 dies s’ha recollit més del que portavem acumulat durant la resta de l’any 2009. I també suposa més de la meitat de la mitja pluviomètrica del nostre poble.
La distribució d’aquestes pluges es resumeixen de la següent manera:
Dia 27: 5 mm. entre les 11h i les 12h.
Dia 28: 70 mm, caiguts sobretot durant la matinada.
Dia 29: 165 mm, on destaquen els 73 mm caiguts entre les 11h i les 14h, 34 mm dels quals entre les 12h i les 13h.
TOTAL: 240 mm.
De les localitats veïnes, cal destacar el cas de borriana, on s’han recollit més de 300 mm, 308 mm anuncia AEMET. Allà els desperfectes han estat majors. També altres punts de la capital de la provincia, Castelló, han superat els 300 mm, arribant a desbordar-se el riu sec en la seva desembocadura. Almassora també va quedar molt afectada, acumulant 268 mm, una mica més que ací.
