La desertització és un tema recurrent a l’hora d’alarmar. I com no, moltes vegades que es tracten temes climàtics, apareix el concepte. I és que realment espanta.
Però com sempre, hem de parar-nos a pensar que és el que ens estan contant. Ens diuen que el augment de CO2 en l’atmosfera provocarà, en primer lloc un augment de la temperatura. No vaig a entrar a contradir açò, perquè no és la idea que porte per a aquest article, tot i que hi ha estudis que posen en dubte la relació lineal entre CO2 y temperatura que l’IPCC s’adjudica. Però bé, al que anava, un augment de CO2 provoca un augment en les temperatures. Com a segona conseqüència ens expliquen que aquest augment de les temperatures compartaria una disminució en les precipitacions i que propiciaria la desertització de moltes zones, entre d’altres catàstrofes.
Aquí trobem el primer problema, ja que m’agradaria que m’explicaren com un augment de les temperatures provocaria una disminució de les precipitacions, perquè a mi em sembla que és just al contrari. S’ha estudiat i comprovat que un augment de CO2 a circulació atmosfèrica acava convertint-se en la major part dels casos en un augment de les precipitacions. A més a més, la paleoclimatologia ha demostrat que les èpoques més càlides han estat les més humides i més fèrtils, més verdes. Qui no coneix la història de Groenlandia, nom que es deu a la verdor que la caracteritzava quan els vikings la descobriren, en un període càlid, lliure de gel i més verd, i tot açò sense contribució antropogènica. Al contrari, les èpoques més fredes s’han caracteritzat per ser més seques i dures per al “verd”.
I encara hi ha més. La fotosíntesi i la productivitat primaria. Les plantes necessiten de CO2 per a dur a terme la fotosíntesi. A més CO2 millor és aquest rendiment, així com una bona aportació de radiació solar i de temperatures elevades milloren aquesta rendibilitat. I com no, si augmenta l’aport d’aigua, nutrient esencial, ja ho tenim tot.
Per acabar, us deixe una imatge que la NASA publicà al 2003 abans de la febra canviclimàtica. Es tracta d’una representació de la variació de la productivitat primària en el període 1982-1999. El resultat és ben clar, segurament producte del lleuger augment de la temperatura que caracteritzà aquest període. Però per a res veig jo que la desertització siga una conseqüència d’aquest escalfament.
